Grant in Aid

• This is a need-based financial support program
• Students must complete the necessary admissions and financial aid forms generated through the admissions office.
• Students must meet the school’s academic standards and be accepted to SJCP, before being considered as a recipient of the Grant In Aid Program.

This is an externally funded program. Businesses, corporations, foundations, alumni, and individuals may make a tax-deductible contribution to the program. It falls under the umbrella of what is generally considered a quasi or wasting endowment in that gifts, when received, can be allocated directly without the need to preserve a corpus.

There are several ways to help fund the program and various programs to fund. You may choose to write a check or pay with credit card, designated for the SJCP Grant In Aid Program. Or, you may elect to make a contribution of appreciated securities, with a low cost basis which has additional tax advantages. (This is not a tuition payment program which is not tax-deductible.  Relationships will be checked and monitored.) A completed and signed External Grant in Aid Form must accompany the payment or pledge. As with the school’s Annual Fund, the benefactor can choose to designate the area of contribution by indicating their selection on the Grant In Aid Form. Many times, donors make a commitment to the program for the full four years of high school. 

Yes. Contributions, accompanied with the required Grant In Aid Form, are submitted to the Business Office. It will then be passed on to the Advancement office, which generates a charitable gift letter to the benefactor. Donations cannot be directed to a specific student, rather a program, to ensure the tax-deductible nature of the donation. They cannot be directed donations of parents, grandparents of family members of current students.

The Grant in Aid Committee consisting of the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Enrollment Management and Head of School, will assess the needs of students and programs. The Director of Athletics and Fine Arts Department Head will have the ability to make recommendations. All final decisions, however, reside with the Grant in Aid Committee.
