Welcome from Saint John's Catholic Preparatory School

Eighth grade is an exciting time! You and your child are faced with unique challenges and rewards as the middle school years come to an end and the search for a high school begins. As you maneuver the high school selection process, you should know that you have valuable tools at your disposal. The Admissions Office at Saint John's Catholic Prep, a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school, is committed to working with prospective students and their families as they embark on the exciting journey of high school selection. Your family has a decision to make that will affect all of you for the next four years, and for some, a lifetime. Where will you send your child to high school?

We look forward to working together as you make this very important decision.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss the high school selection process, please feel free to call or email us.

Shadow Visit

SJCP invites you to come and spend a day with a current student to see what life is like at Saint John's Catholic Prep. This is a great opportunity to tour the campus, meet students, faculty, and staff and see everything that Saint John's has to offer. Shadow visits are available on most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the school year. You can schedule a specific student to spend the day with or we can match you with someone. If you are interested in shadowing, please contact Emily Kurtyka in the Admissions Office.

Educating in a joyful Catholic community of faith, hope and love, Saint John's Catholic Preparatory School prepares our students to be leaders with good hearts and discerning spirits as they pursue truth, academic excellence and service to humanity.

Small class settings allow for more individualized attention as well as greater opportunities for students to participate and to take on roles of leadership.

MSM College-level Courses

Starting this fall, Saint John's Catholic Prep will serve as the first high school in Frederick County to collaborate with Mount St. Mary's University by offering students the opportunity to enroll in collegiate courses such as sociology and criminal justice. This partnership will allow for a select number of qualified juniors and seniors to travel to MSMU's Frederick campus and be taught by university professors.

The first course offered will be an introduction to criminal justice taught by Tim Wolfe, Ph.D. The course offered each semester will be chosen by both MSMU and SJCP faculty and based on the SJCP students' interests. Upon completion and passing of the course, SJCP students will receive both university and high school credits. Those credits will appear on an MSMU transcript and then sent to the senior's choice of college upon request. Credits will also appear on the official SJCP high school transcript.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Scholars Program

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Scholars Program attempts to accommodate the needs of students who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate learning challenges and whose psycho-educational reports (as well as referrals from guidance counselors and teachers) indicate that intervention is critical to the student's academic success at SJCP. This unique academic support program is designed for motivated students with learning differences who desire to pursue a college preparatory high school diploma and continue their education following high school in a post-secondary school environment. For more information, please contact Janet Ryczko.

The strong bond that exists between students is due in part to the shared experiences enjoyed outside the classroom while participating in one or more of over 25 academic, cultural, and social organizations.
