Coach Brett Ponchione comes to Saint John’s Catholic Prep (SJCP) after most recently serving for two seasons as the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Howard Community College - taking over a program with a historical record of 44-46 and in two years led them to a 30-5 record. In his first season, HCC won the NJCAA Region XX title for the first time in program history and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament (also for the first time in program history). In his second season, HCC again won the NJCAA Region XX title, MDJUCO championship, and qualified again for the NJCAA National Tournament (advancing and losing in the national championship game).
Coach Ponch was named an NJCAA Coach of the Year both seasons, coached four student-athletes to All-American honors, 15 to All-Region XX honors, and 16 to All-MDJCO honors.
Additionally, and as importantly, his Women’s Lacrosse team finished second then first in the HCC Team GPA competition.
Prior to coaching at HCC, Coach Ponch served as the Head Girls Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Richard Montgomery HS in Rockville, MD, and as a JV Girls Lacrosse coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel HS in Olney, MD.
For the past 15 years, Coach Ponch has also been coaching Club lacrosse for the Rebels, Renegades, and MD Select Lacrosse Clubs, and brings a wealth of experience with the college recruiting process and assisting student-athletes as they transition from their high school to college careers. Over 80 of his former club players have played or are currently playing college lacrosse, including nearly 40 at the Division 1 level.
Coach Ponch was a two-sport athlete and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.
