Students requesting testing accommodations must submit the required documentation by the deadline listed above. Please contact the Enrollment Office if you miss this deadline. Documentation may not date earlier than the student’s 5th grade year.

SJCP is able to offer the following accommodations:

• 50% extended time
• 100% extended time
• Calculator
• Separate room
• Extra breaks
• No scantron/help with bubbling
• Enlarged print

As the date gets closer, registered families will receive an email with pick up and drop off information. 

We recommend all students pre-register to ensure we have enough space. 

Payment is required during online registration. 

The HSPT is a requirement of SJCP’s admission process for all current 8^th grade students.  If you are taking the HSPT at your current school, you do not need to take the test at SJCP.  Please indicate SJCP as a recipient of your test scores.  Transfer students do not need to take the HSPT.

Testing will begin at 9 AM promptly.  The test is broken down into five sections, totaling about two and a half hours.  Students will be given adequate breaks throughout the testing period.  Testing will be completed around Noon.  If a student has extended time accommodations or additional breaks, the test will not be completed until later.  Please contact the Enrollment Office to discuss a pick up time if your child has extended time.

Test results are normally released to families within 3-5 weeks after the last scheduled test date for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Families will receive the student’s scores via mail or email, depending on what was you chose during the registration process.

If you selected SJCP to receive your scores, we will receive them directly from Scholastic Testing Services.  You do not need to send them to us. 

Please bring your registration form that you received after registering online.  Calculators are not permitted unless you have documentation for that accommodation.  In that case, SJCP will provide a basic calculator. 

In the event of inclement weather, SJCP will follow Frederick County Public Schools' decision for delays and cancellations. 

No. The HSPT may be taken only once, and only by 8th grade students. It cannot be repeated under any circumstances.

Students should answer all questions, as they are not penalized for wrong answers. The proctor explains all details prior to the start of the test.

Testing can be an anxious, yet exciting experience for students and their parents. STS offers the following tips to best prepare for a successful testing experience:

• Listen to and read the directions for each subtest carefully.
• Pace yourself – time limits are set for each sub-test. Test administrators announce when time is halfway through so students can check their pace. Avoid spending too much time on one item.
• Read each question carefully.
• Work out the problem – Calculators are not permitted for the Mathematics subtest. Use scratch paper or the test booklet to do any figuring.
• Answer every question – If you are unsure of an answer, take your best guess. Your score is determined by the number of items answered correctly; there is no penalty for answering incorrectly.
• Check your work – If there is time left, go back and review your answers. Make sure each item has only one response. Throughout the test, check that the answer you are marking on your answer sheet corresponds to the item number in the test booklet.
•  While many test prep guides, books, and courses are available for purchase, STS is not affiliated with any of these products and does not endorse them. STS believes that parents and teachers are best advised to avoid expensive preparation materials, trusting that a well-rounded education is the best form of test preparation.
