Over the summer, I wrote a prayer for the school called “Steer Our Hearts.” This prayer invites the Holy Spirit to steer our hearts towards our school’s five pillars: Faith, Leadership, Scholarship, Honor, and Service. Reflecting on that prayer two months after writing it, I can see the Holy Spirit has answered my request!
Campus Ministry had three retreats during the summer: the Campus Ministry Team Retreat, Freshman Retreat, and Faculty Retreat. The students on the Campus Ministry Team astounded me with their leadership. They came together as a community with a deeply rooted relationship with Jesus and amazing ideas for the school. They were the stars of the show at the freshman retreat where they gave talks, led small groups, led games, and welcomed the freshman class to our school. The theme of the freshman retreat was Casting the Vision. The freshman students eagerly stepped up to the challenge to integrate the Gospel into their lives during high school. After the freshman retreat, the faculty came together for a day of prayer and reflection at the National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes. Among the beauty of the Grotto, the faculty focused on making true interior peace the source of their work. The intention is to always bring that peace and joy into the hearts of our students.
Through the opening activities of the school, the Holy Spirit has not only led my heart closer to our five pillars but also to a greater trust in God. I saw the Holy Spirit moving among our school when Campus Ministry gave out homemade chocolate chip cookies on the first day of class and when I witnessed the Campus Ministry Team students distribute quotes from St. Teresa of Calcutta on her feast day. I am thankful to our students for giving me a greater trust in God.Kate Quinn Director of Campus Ministry
