Advancement Insight - November 2017

Like many, the fall and holiday season is always a time I very much look forward to each year. It’s a time that always seems so far away yet continues to find a way to sneak up on me. After spending the better part of October on the road visiting partner schools and participating in school fairs, it’s nice to be back on campus to prepare for applications and the coming together of our next freshman class.

October was a busy month in the Advancement Office. We hosted 36 students from St. John Regional Catholic School for a class-wide shadow visit. Students had the chance to sit-in on classes and see what a typical school day is like at Saint John’s. Science Department Chair Erin Smith led a demonstration in the Chemistry lab where students created their own slime and Music Director Rei Phillippi and the school band performed for the group.

We also invited the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students from our partner schools to a Middle School Football Night on October 27th. Families had the chance to celebrate Senior Night with us, meet with current students and parents, and experience our wonderful school community.  We will be hosting a Middle School Basketball Night on Friday, December 15th at 6 PM and we hope even more families will take advantage of this opportunity to come out to learn more about Saint John’s Catholic Prep!

One of our biggest recruiting opportunities is our Fall Open House which took place on November 5th. The school was filled with prospective families interested in learning more about receiving a faith-filled, college-prep education. Guests had the opportunity to attend an activities fair in the gym where they met with students, faculty, and staff to learn more about the academic and co-curricular offerings at Saint John’s. Principal Marc Minsker and Enrollment Specialist Emily Kurtyka joined me in welcoming our families and Music Director Rei Phillippi and the school band treated our guests to an amazing musical performance. The day concluded with student-led tours of the campus. Families were very impressed with the warm welcome they received as well as our school spirit!

For the third year, Saint John's Catholic Prep has joined Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28th, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the "giving season." This is a time when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

I would like to wish you and your family a very blessed and Happy Thanksgiving,
