With perseverance and faith, our community came together to accomplish so much more in 2020 than we could have ever believed possible.

In mid-March, Saint John's Catholic Prep pivoted to distance learning in just one day's time. The school year closed by celebrating the Class of 2020 with an in-person, masked graduation ceremony at Harry Grove Stadium, home to the Frederick Keys. After months of planning and preparation, SJCP reopened its doors in August 2020 to be one of the only schools in Frederick County to provide in-person instruction to its students. Upgrades in classroom technology, the hiring of additional personnel, and increased cleaning and sanitation practices have allowed SJCP to complete a semester of successful in-person learning using a hybrid format.

Student-athletes at SJCP successfully returned to play this summer and fall. Designated as an open season by both the IAAM and the MIAA, our Viking athletic teams played an abbreviated, yet competitive Fall season.

This school year students, faculty, and staff returned to a 9,000 sq ft building expansion - The Bettie Delaplaine Fine Arts Center. The new space includes classrooms for fine arts, an expanded Viking Cafe, and the Crowley Multi-Purpose Room. The Mother Theresa of Calcutta Chapel was also completed at the entrance, and heart, of our school.

Finally in November, after five years, SJCP successfully connected to Frederick County water and sewer. Permitting and groundbreaking can now begin for the future Viking Stadium!

Best of the Best 2020

Milestones:

• Our first major milestone is returning to campus for instruction in the Fall of 2020. We can't thank our administration, faculty, staff, parents, AND students enough for all their work in getting us to 14 successful weeks on campus!
• We loved seeing our student-athletes back on the field and court this Fall. A huge thank you to our Athletic Department for working tirelessly to keep us competing these last few months!
• Our building expansion couldn't have been completed at a better time. We are grateful for all of the new space our students and faculty have to create!

Events:

• 2020 Graduation will be one of the most memorable ceremonies yet. Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
• We couldn't forget our wonderful parents. What a phenomenal evening of gratitude for all of our SJCP parents!
• 2020 caused us to get creative. Our drive-thru yearbook pickup was a hit!

Athletics and Clubs Moments:

• Our McSherry Maniacs brought the energy to fuel our 2020 Varsity Boys Basketball team to an upset against #1 Archbishop Curley! The Vikings went on to compete at the MIAA Championship in 2020.
• Mock Trial takes the 1A Championship title with a win over Oakdale High School in 2020!

Academic Success:
