Mention organic chemistry to the doctors, nurses, dentists, and veterinarians in your life and you will understand the reputation the subject has of being a notoriously difficult course. Saint John’s is offering an introductory organic chemistry course for the first time in the 2018-2019 academic year. The course is taught by Dr. Smith and currently has 10 students, most of whom are interested in pursuing science and medicine in college. Organic chemistry students will gain experience with the subject matter and make connections between organic chemistry, medicine, and biology while getting a leg up on their classmates in college. This is a unique college preparatory experience as Saint John’s is the only high school in Frederick County offering organic chemistry.
