SJCP Latin Club Competes at Maryland Junior Classical League State Convention

Students from the SJCP Latin Club competed at the Maryland Junior Classical League State Convention hosted by Easton High School April 6-7. Students competed in a variety of contests including Certamen, academic testing, Olympika (athletics), artwork, and more.

Latin 1 students Seth Martin and Laura Neumark performed summa cum laude, earning 4th place at the Novice level of Certamen. Seth also earned 1st place on the History of the Monarchy and Republic exam, and Laura earned 1st place for Roman Culture. Latin 2 student, Grace Rish also earned numerous accolades, single-handedly winning 2nd place for Intermediate Certamen and also winning the election for MDJCL State Editor. Finally, Latin 3 student Penny Martin demonstrated her creativity and school/state pride in order to write a Latin cheer that will now be used by the Maryland delegation at the national convention this summer. Congratulations to all of our amazing Latin Club members for a wonderful and successful convention!
