Dr. Benard Mambo, World Languages teacher at SJCP, attended the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo, where language educators from around the world come to meet and share ideas. Dr. Mambo was invited by Concordia College-Concordia Language Villages to run small workshops for language educators at all levels. The goal is to help students to succeed in their language learning process by providing fun and immersive ways to engage them in their traditional academic learning environment. Mr. Mambo started his workshop with the traditional West African game of “Awalé” or Mancala as a fun way to use a target language to explain the rules and strategies of a game while building the learner’s vocabulary in the process. He also used Rory’s Story Cubes as a mean to inspire storytelling and creative play using French. Dr. Mambo enjoyed presenting and sharing his ideas with other educators and the teachers attending had fun as well.
