Today the SJCP community came together to celebrate All Saints' Day Mass. SJCP science teacher, Mr. Brian Nogay, opened our All Saints' Day Mass with a reflection (see below).

Mr. Nogay opened Mass with his reflection:

I THOUGHT IT WAS RUDE THAT I WOULD EXPECT GOD TO RESPOND IMMEDIATELY WHENEVER I TALKED TO HIM. AS IF I CALLED UP GOD AND EXPECTED HIM TO STAY ON THE LINE, WAITING FOR ME TO REPLY. BUT IN THE GOSPEL JESUS SAID, ‘I HAVE NOT COME TO BE SERVED BUT TO SERVE.’ I GUESS IT’S NOT RUDE TO EXPECT GOD TO BE WAITING FOR ME- GOD JUST WANTS ME TO RESPOND.

AND I DIDN’T CALL GOD, GOD CALLED ME…AND GOD HAS ALREADY CALLED YOU. AND GOD DOES JUST WAIT FOR US TO RESPOND. AND IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE THAT AND THINK ALL THIS IS MAKE-BELIEVE…

IN YOUR LIFE, YOU’VE NEVER HAD SOMETHING HAPPEN THAT COULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED, AND COULDN’T BE EXPLAINED? YOU’VE NEVER FELT THE PRESENCE OF A RELATIVE OR SOMETHING?

I DON’T BELIEVE THAT. GOD HAS CALLED YOU TOO. AND GOD WAITS FOR YOU TO RESPOND, JUST THE SAME.

IT’S JUST BEING AWARE. LIKE WHEN WE’RE DRIVING AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, IF THEY WOULD JUST MOVE UP A FEW FEET WE COULD GET IN THAT OTHER LANE. IF THEY WERE PAYING ATTENTIONOR MAYBE THAT’S US THAT’S THE ONE NOT PAYING ATTENTION…

IT’S FINDING GOD THAT’S THE TRICK.

Anyone who has seen the book “Where’s Waldo”, knows that Waldo is hiding in plain sight among all the things that distract us. AND We get better at finding Waldo the more we look for him. What if we try to find God among our every day, and what if we looked more?

IN THE BOOK OF KINGS IT SAYS:
THE LORD SAID “GO OUT AND STAND BEFORE THE LORD, THE LORD WILL BE PASSING BY." ALL AT ONCE, A STRONG WIND SHOOK THE MOUNTAIN AND SHATTERED THE ROCKS. BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE WIND. NEXT, THERE WAS AN EARTHQUAKE, BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE EARTHQUAKE. THEN THERE WAS A FIRE, BUT THE LORD WAS NOT IN THE FIRE. FINALLY, THERE WAS A GENTLE WHISPER, AND WHEN ELIJAH HEARD IT, HE COVERED HIS FACE WITH HIS COAT. THE LORD WAS IN THE LITTLE WHISPER…THAT’S GOD IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. THAT’S HOW GOD SHOWS UP - IN THOSE LITTLE MOMENTS.

God is our connection. All that ‘stuff’ that overwhelms and distracts us and reminds us that we don’t have it under control, God quietly says, “I got it.”

GOD WANTS US TO BE HERE TODAY WHEN HE PASSES BY…

IF WE’RE AWARE ENOUGH, WE CAN FIGURE OUT HOW.

WHAT IF WE THINK ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD…AND WE DON’T NEED TO TALK…MAYBE BY BEING RECEPTIVE, LISTENING FOR THAT QUIET WIND.

MAYBE BY PRAYING. A MAN ASKED A SPIRITUAL ADVISOR, HOW DO I…WHATS THE BEST WAY TO PRAY. THE ADVISOR ANSWERED, “THAT’S EASY, ASK GOD”

WHAT IF WE THOUGHT ABOUT HOW GOD IS HERE…

WHAT IF, DURING THIS MASS WE RESPOND BECAUSE GOD IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO GET OUR ATTENTION, AND A LOT OF TIMES GOD WHISPERS.
