Students, faculty, and staff from Saint John's traveled to Washington DC on January 19, 2018 for the Annual March for Life. The mission of the March for Life is to provide all Americans with a place to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of each human person. It is an opportunity to bring together pro-life leaders and groups to organize, unite and strategize around a common message, and to communicate this message to the government, the media, and the nation in a way that is powerful and life-affirming.
Students arrived at school by 5:45 am and took a bus down to the Capitol One Arena where they participated in a spirit-filled Mass concelebrated by hundreds of priests from the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Archdiocese of Washington, and many other parts of the US – including our own Fr. Mike Kuhn!
After the liturgy, students were led down to the National Mall by the SJCP chaperones: Director of Campus Ministry Becca Dickerson, teacher and music minister Dawn Miller, baseball and track coach Billy McRoberts, and Principal Marc Minsker. Once on the Mall, the SJCP group met up with the Archdiocese of Baltimore representatives from the Department of Evangelization and also Archbishop Lori and Bishop Adam Parker. The rally on the Mall included prayers, songs, and speeches before thousands of Pro-Life marchers made their way up Constitution Avenue towards the Supreme Court.
Thanks to our bus driver John Weakly for transporting everyone safely and also to the additional chaperones, including Phil, Evan, Michelle, and our seminarians from Mount St. Mary’s, Ryan and Kevin.
