Close contact for students in K-12 schools is defined as within 3 feet in all spaces in the building for 15 minutes or greater cumulatively in a 24 hour period with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.
If you determine that your child was in close contact with an individual that tested positive, please monitor for symptoms, test 5 days after the last known exposure, and follow quarantine and masking guidance.
Mary Beth O’Boyle, our school certified medication technician and infection control coordinator will continue to be your main contact regarding any health-related questions or concerns. Our primary goal remains focused on providing a safe environment for all who work and attend school at SJCP.
Please be sure to complete the Confidential Medical Form through Blackbaud on the parents’ portal on our school website so that we are informed of any medical conditions or pertinent medical history or medications.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of any infectious illness and specifically symptoms consistent with Covid: cough, fever, headache, sore throat, difficulty breathing, diarrhea or vomiting, or new loss of taste or smell, PLEASE KEEP THEM AT HOME and test for Covid or have them see a healthcare professional for an alternate diagnosis.
Please be aware that quarantine requirements per the CDC and the MDH/MSDE are different for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. To be considered “up-to-date” and avoid quarantine recommendations in the future, students should receive their booster dose as soon as they are eligible (5 months after 2nd dose of their original series).
Vaccination against Covid-19 remains a family decision and is not required by SJCP.
Unvaccinated students identified as a close contact to a Covid-19 positive individual are asked to quarantine for at least 5 days, test on Day 5 after last known exposure, and return on Day 6 once a negative test is obtained and the student remains asymptomatic. Masks should be worn from Day 6 through Day 10 regardless of a negative test.
Vaccinated, asymptomatic students identified as a close contact to a Covid-19 positive individual are not required to quarantine, however, testing is recommended on day 5 after last known exposure. Masks should be worn from Day 6 through Day 10 regardless of negative test.
We will do our best to assist any student who is absent for illness, emergencies, quarantines, etc. but it will not consist of a virtual school option.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. We believe that our best efforts to remain a healthy community will be the result of a strong partnership between your home and school. We are thankful every day for the wonderful families that make SJCP such a special place.
