Student Life

Community Service

Community Service is a portion of the educational process that addresses the moral and spiritual development of our students. By serving those outside our regular circle, we develop an appreciation of our many blessings. It is our goal here at Saint John’s, to have our students recognize that they have the power to affect another life by caring enough to serve others.

Graduation from Saint John’s Catholic Prep requires 80 hours of community service from each student, with at least 20 hours each year. Hours completed during the summer after 8th grade may be used. There are many opportunities in our community for service. Mrs. Splaine, the Director of Community Service, has information on many places and programs. There are also Volunteer Organizations that provide places and contact people. Their web sites are www.volunteerfrederick.org, wwwvolunteermatch.org and www.montgomeryvolunteer.org.

Students document their hours by completely filling out our community service form and turning it in to the community service coordinator.
