Acoustic Cafe - This after school club emphasizes student's creative talents in song writing.  Students learn different ways to express their emotions artistically through the composition of original music and/or lyrics.  Open to all grade levels and talents the group works weekly on original compositions brought to the club where constructive criticism is given and well received. Their efforts are rewarded by weekly performances which showcase their talents.

Amnesty International - This club believes that learning about human rights is the first step towards respecting, promoting, and defending the rights of all people.  Teaching human rights means both conveying ideas and information concerning human rights and nurturing the values and attitudes that lead to the support of those rights.  Members meet regularly to write letters and organize actions on behalf of human rights violations.  Membership is open to juniors and seniors only.  Moderator: John Herr

Art Club - Art club is an afterschool activity for students who want a dose of creative output outside of the regular school day. The club will include creating art projects on campus (such as school event decorations), personal projects, and any other type of artistic project that calls for creativity and imagination. All students are welcome to join regardless of your level of artistic experience. Moderator: Rebecca Drews

Audio Club - Our “Audio Club” is referred to as the Sound Crew.  Members set-up and operate the portable sound system for liturgies and all school assemblies and evening functions requiring more than just a single microphone.  They have taken the system to the athletic fields for the Olympic Games, the front lawn for Field Day, and even to FSK Mall during Catholic Schools week. The most challenging work is Mass with six microphones, keyboard, and other electronic feeds. Moderator: Paul McNickle

Certamen Club - Certamen is a fast-paced Latin competition that is similar to Jeopardy and Battle of the Brains.  The SJCP Certamen team travels to other high schools about six times a year to compete against their peers from across the state.  Each competition is held on a Saturday, from about 10:00AM-2:00PM.  In competitions, team members are asked questions that deal with the Latin language itself, Roman history and culture, and Greek and Roman mythology.  Every May the Maryland Junior Classical League hosts a spring convention, which includes not only Certamen competitions, but also chariot races, gladiator games, art exhibitions, poetry recitations, and plays. Moderator: Bethany Witcher

Disc Golf Club
The Disc Golf Club is a new afterschool activity for students who like to throw Frisbees and who want to take that to another level.  Disc golf is an international sport that is similar to golf but uses baskets instead of holes and discs instead of golf balls.  Saint John’s recently acquired two professional size baskets for disc golf and a nine-hole course has been set-up on the school grounds.  All students are welcome to join regardless of your experience with Frisbees.  Discs will be provided for students.  Moderator:  John Herr

Drama Club - The Drama Club meets approximately once a month until the Spring play is decided.  At that point, students audition for roles in the play and, once cast, must attend bi-weekly rehearsals.  It is our goal to perform at least one play each year.  In 2007, the “Prospect Players” performed The Doctor in Spite of Himself by Moliere downtown at the Cultural Arts Center.  In 2008, students performed Life is a Dream by Calderon also at the Cultural Arts Center.  In performing, we hope to gain a better understanding of the writer’s intentions as well as a more comprehensive grasp of what is involved in actually performing and producing a play.
Moderator: Melissa Minsker

Drumline - The drumline meets afterschool on Thursdays at 2:50PM. Participation in a drumline creates a sense of camaraderie and promotes team building and leadership skills.  In comparison to a rock band, you have the snare as the lyrics, the bass drum as the underlying bass beat, aka the bass guitarist, and the tenors as the lead guitarists, with the cymbals as embellishments.  The drumline will perform at the basketball games and the pep rallies.  Moderator: Matt Conley

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) - Originally, the mission of the SADD chapter was to help young people say "No" to drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded. Students have told us that positive peer pressure, role models and other strategies can help them say "No" to more than drinking and driving. That is why SADD has become a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide.
