Campus Ministry

Liturgy Schedule » Events/Photos

The Campus Ministry program provides students with opportunities to experience faith in God and Jesus Christ on a personal level and to encourage their active participation in the Catholic Christian community of Saint John’s Catholic Prep.  We achieve this mission as faculty and staff by working together with our students to experience faith not only through liturgy and other worship experiences, but also by creating an atmosphere where students encounter the Gospel of Jesus in everyday activities.

There are numerous ways for students to become involved in the Campus Ministry program.  In addition to being part of the team that plans liturgies and other religious events, there will also be opportunities for students to be part of the worship team as choir members and musicians.  Students can also be involved in planning and implementing service projects, and helping to plan special events.

Marching For Life!
On Monday, January 23, Saint John's Catholic Prep braved the weather and took 35 students and four adults to the March for Life in Washington D.C. They joined tens of thousands of protesters who marched from the National Mall to the Supreme Court for the annual call to end abortion in the United States. This year marks the 39th anniversary of the march, which has been held every year since 1974 to mark the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Young people were a large percentage of the marchers. Groups bearing banners from high schools, colleges, even law schools joined the thousands who walked.  The crowd was massive, the weather was rainy and cold, but it was all worth it to take a stand for life!

On A Mission From God
This was the theme of this year's sophomore retreat.  On Friday, November 18, 2011 the sophomores headed to St. Peter's in Libertytown for a day of Christian music, Mass, and testimonies.  Four senior Peer Ministers came along to help with music, hand-motions, and to share about their faith.  Alex Massi, Alex Hursey, Emily Tolino, and Maria Sofia all did an amazing job being a Christian witness to their younger "brothers and sisters." The day was run by Dawn Miller, Director of Campus Ministry, with assistance from many faculty members who joyfully helped serve good food, played some great music, and led several great discussions.  The day ended the best way a retreat can end - with Mass led by Fr. Jason Worely.  Thanks to all who helped the sophomores figure out what their mission is.  What's yours?

The "Keys" of Life
On Friday, November 18, 2011 the entire junior class traveled to St. Mary's in Barnesville for a one-day retreat.  The day was clear and cool, perfect for indoor work and outdoor fun.  With a theme of "KEYS", our 54 juniors first considered all the things physical keys do for us in our daily lives - and the responsibilities that go along with them.  They then reflected on the immaterial keys - persons, places, and experiences that have shaped their lives so far.  Finally, they reflected on the important keys to the persons they want to be and the life they want to live in the years to come.  The pizza for lunch was quickly 'inhaled' to maximize free time for Frisbee football, swinging on the swings, and looking for the resident horses and donkeys, who sadly failed to show.  Guest Retreat Master Mr. Michael Splaine directed the day's events, ably supported by Mr. McNickle, Mr. Dummann, Mr. Herr, Ms. Collins, and Ms. Trentacoste.  Father Kevin O'Reilly, Pastor of St. Mary's, graciously took time to celebrate Mass and deliver an inspiring homily on what else - keys.
