Students Active in Civil Air Patrol
Posted 09/11/2017 11:21AM

Saint John's students have been very active in the Civil Air Patrol this summer.

Seniors and Civil Air Patrol Cadets, Seth McRoberts, of the CAP Leesburg squadron, and Patrick Bulley, of the CAP Frederick squadron, graduated from Pararescue and Survival Orientation Course (PJOC) this summer. After a highly selective process of acceptance into the program, Seth and Patrick were introduced to the skills and requirements of Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs), Combat Rescue Officers (CRO) and Survival-Evasion-Resistance-and-Escape (SERE) Specialists. Their training included 7 intensive, grueling days in high mountain desert conditions with rescue operations skills and techniques including land navigation, survival techniques, rock climbing and rappelling. Both graduated from this premier advanced training for the Civil Air Patrol with the motto of "That Others May Live...to Return with Honor."

Three SJCP students, Sean Elkins, Robert Velte, and Patrick Bulley, were among a team of six Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Frederick squadron who participated in the National Cadet Competition (NCC). This CAP team won at Maryland and Regional CAP competitions to qualify for the NCC. This required countless hours of demanding practice and exquisite preparation. The Maryland CAP NCC wins are prestigious accomplishments and reflect positively on the participating individuals and the high caliber of SJCP student and their dedication to quality extracurricular activities and service.
