SJCP RECEIVES FIRST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR LEGACY CAMPAIGN
February 17, 2010
Saint John’s Catholic Prep is very pleased to announce the Horning Brothers Scholarship for African American Students. This is the first scholarship received for the Legacy Campaign’s Endowed Scholarship Fund. The corpus of the $50,000 scholarship will have the ability to grow until 2014, when the first awards will be available for distribution. Scholarships like the Horning Brothers Scholarship are consistent with the mission of Saint John’s, as well as a wonderful addition to the school’s scholarship funds made available to an important student constituency.
Horning Brothers is a real estate development firm located in Washington, D.C. Mr. Joseph Horning, Chairman of Horning Brothers, has served in an advisory capacity to numerous public, private, and parochial educational institutions and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Mount St. Mary’s College.
Dr. Jack Campbell, President at Saint John’s, states, “endowed scholarships are a way of assuring future generations of students that a SJCP education will be a realistic possibility. We are most grateful to The Horning Brothers for their generosity and outreach to our African American students.”
Saint John’s is currently conducting The Legacy Campaign to raise $7 million dollars. Six million is being used toward the new school building and $1 million is earmarked for an endowment fund. To date, The Legacy Campaign has raised $2,323,906 in gifts and pledges. Additional contributions to campaign for both the building fund and endowed funds are welcome and greatly appreciated.
