Kate Kersey, 2008
Kate recently graduated cum laude from James Madison University (JMU), a semester early, with a 3.7 GPA for her BA in History and a 3.8 GPA for her minor in Africana Studies. During her time at JMU, she worked as a research assistant looking to re-conceptualize the idea of what constitutes racism, exploring the idea of neocolonialism - specifically looking at the American race-based ghetto as an internal colony, and proliferation of segregation stemming from discrimination in the housing and job markets. Kate was fortunate enough to present at several conferences, including a PhD panel. She also studied abroad this past summer in Ghana - both to take classes and volunteer in a school established for children whose parents either could not afford or chose not to send them to school.
Kate states, "I feel very blessed to have been at Prospect Hall and to have received the educational basis to graduate early and without a single C!"

Katie Denney, 2007
Katie is a registered nurse and works at Northwest Hospital.
Marie Burneko, 2008
Marie conducted research with The University of Vermont College of Medicine studying the effects of the medication, aliskiren, on diet induced obese mouse models. Her thesis was titled, "The effects of aliskiren on adipocyte proliferation, blood glucose, and insulin levels." Her research involved looking at the drug to see if it increased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in obese mice as a model of type 2 diabetes (T2D), which is correlated with diet induced obesity. The hope was to see if the drug could help those at risk for developing T2D from actually developing it, or decrease the risk of developing T2D. No conclusive results are available at this time. It was quite a process, but the research that Marie conducted earned her a distinguished undergraduate research award.
Aaron Hull, 2011
Aaron received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy from Senator Barbara Mikulski. He is awaiting an appointment to the academy to be assigned sometime in April 2012.

Alex currently attends the US Naval Academy and recently joined the Division I Varsity sailing team. Overall she is doing very well, and while the academics are difficult, Alex is up for the challenge and succeeding.
Krystel Martinez, 2007
Krystel graduated in May of 2011 with a major in English Language and Literature along with two minors in French and Spanish from the University of Maryland in College Park. She attained academic honors for three consecutive semesters and states, "I attribute these accomplishments to my strong academic record at SJPH and to all of my teachers who have helped me achieve my academic goals."
Krystel was recently hired by SOC LLC, a full service security company managing international operations for many clients such as the United States Departments of State, Defense, and Energy. Her role in the company's current contract with the Department of State is to edit clearance documents for foreign nationals hired as guards for the U.S Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
