Social Studies

The social studies curriculum at Saint John's Catholic Prep focuses on a core of history courses designed to develop each student's analytical abilities and expressive skills. Classes typically run in seminar style with open discussions of primary source documents. Students receive extensive instruction and practice in oral and written communication, including expository essays and, in AP history courses, DBQs (document-based-questions). The social studies department also offers psychology and AP Economics. In addition to AP Economics, students can apply to take AP US History and Honors-level Philosophy.
