SJCP Databases

The following is a list of databases which are available to all SJCP students from all computers on campus* and from home.  Log onto Moodle to find the usernames and passwords for each.

Student Resource Center Gold
A fully integrated database containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, background information, 1,200 full text magazines, newspaper articles and more.

Science Resource Center
This database provides access to thousands of science topics, experiments, biographies, pictures, illustrations and the latest scientific developments. As well as articles from over 200 magazines and academic journals and links to quality web sites. The database covers curriculum-related science topics and offers content directly correlated to state and national standards.

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia Online

This online encyclopedia is based on the full text of the Academic American Encyclopedia, is a fact-filled reference resource, rich in multimedia content. This product contains articles, pictures, tables, flags, sounds and maps.

Cumbre en Linea
An encyclopedia for early to intermediate level Spanish speakers contains more than 18,000 articles, maps, recipes, a holiday calendar, grammar appendices, vocabulary pages and maps and current news stories.

SIRS Knowledge Source® (SKS)
SIRS is an online interface that provides integrated access to thousands of full-text articles, documents, Internet resources and graphics from SIRS’ highly-acclaimed reference databases. A multidisciplinary resource-based approach to learning.

World Book Advanced
This encyclopedia offers integrated content, allowing students to search across a vast collection of primary source documents, e-books, and encyclopedia articles as well as multimedia elements, editor-selected Web sites, current magazine selections, and more. Additionally, customizable interfaces and personalized content allow users to create and save information on World Book Advanced, including research notes, compilations, citations, and timelines.
 
L'Encyclopédie Découverte
The World Book French encyclopedia contains articles, a dictionary, illustrations and maps.  French speakers and students of French can benefit from the clear, concise information in L'Encyclopédie Découverte.

Questia
The world's largest online library of books, with over 67,000 full-text books, 1.5 million articles, and an entire reference set complete with a dictionary, encyclopedia, and thesaurus. The entire Questia academic library also includes digital productivity tools for highlighting text, taking notes, and generating footnotes and bibliographies in seven different styles.

ELibrary Science
eLibrary Science offers full text, science-specific titles and selected articles from non-science specific publications. More than 400 science publications are represented, including reference books, magazines, journals, transcripts, audio/video, and manipulatives.

Daily Life Through  History
This comprehensive, cross-disciplinary resource supports history, social studies, English, and language students, Daily Life Online moves seamlessly from past to present, providing context for contemporary life and culture. History database emphasizing the association of historical context of daily life to all historical time periods from pre-history to date. Daily Life Online explores how others lived, and how their lives shaped ours. This database is enhanced with new books, articles, images, maps, primary documents, and more.

ProQuest Learning Literature
Learning Literature provides more than 180,000 full-text works of poetry, prose, and drama from around the world. This research tool also offers secondary sources such as author biographies and multimedia, as well as literary criticisms, essays, reviews, and interviews drawn from 100+ full-text literary magazines and journals.

GreenFILE
GreenFILE is freely accessible research database focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment, with well-researched information on topics ranging from global warming to recycling to alternate fuel sources and beyond. Comprised of scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports, GreenFILE offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the ecology. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology.

Historical Newspapers: The New York Times    
This comprehensive database contains thousands of issues of the New York Times, covering the years from 1851 to 2005. Full-text and full-image versions of nearly every page of the newspaper are available and can be accessed through the search engine. Images can also be easily downloaded in PDF format. This is an excellent resource for studying any historical event in the last 160 years. (Students can also access from home)
