College Counseling
Resources: College Corner
We consider all factors when working with the student and family as he/she explores college opportunities. Our goal is for each graduate to attend a college that matches his/her needs, as well as the family’s needs. For students who apply, we have 100% applicant acceptance to college. The Class of 2008 had an average SAT of 1099 (1600 scale), 1658 (2400) and was offered over $3 million in college scholarships and grants.
The Counselor works closely with the student in determining their college choice, considering their needs, academically, financially, and socially. The Counselor also provides the students and parents with the resources of information, as well as serving as the liaison to college admission officers.
Included in this process is a specific regimen of standardized tests that begin in the freshman year with an introduction to the NEDT, and progress through the PSAT in the sophomore and junior years, to ultimately the SAT or ACT in the junior and senior years.
Formal introduction to the college search, selection and application process begins in the Spring of the junior year. Students and parents meet individually with the Director of College Counseling to develop a personal plan for securing acceptable college placements. These sessions include a review of the student's academic history and interpretation of test scores.
The Guidance Office provides college correspondence, videos, view books and applications. In addition, college admissions representatives visit Saint John’s campus throughout the first semester and students are encouraged to attend college fairs: Frederick County fair in the spring and Saint John’s sponsors a school trip to the Baltimore National fair in the fall.
